Join Verve Senior Living as an Environmental Services Manager, where you will oversee maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry services while playing a critical role in supporting the health, safety, comfort, and well-being of our residents and team members.  In this role, you'll lead a dedicated service team, oversee building systems and preventative maintenance programs, support infection prevention and control initiatives, and ensure the residence operates at the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the General Manager, the Environmental Services Manager is responsible for the overall management of maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry services within the residence. This role oversees building systems and infrastructure, preventative maintenance programs, life safety systems, infection prevention and control practices, environmental cleanliness, and departmental compliance.  The Environmental Services Manager ensures that all environmental services operations support a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained residence while meeting organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and resident expectations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and Develop Teams

  • Recruit, train, coach, and evaluate maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.
  • Prepare and manage staff schedules, including time off request and ensure appropriate departmental coverage.
  • Participate in operational and regional Environmental Services meetings

Oversee Building Operations

  • Manage all building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and security systems.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance programs, life safety system inspections, testing and accurate documentation
  • Coordinate suite turnovers and move-in readiness
  • Oversee capital projects as required.
  • Maintain secure control of master keys.

Manage Housekeeping and Laundry Services

  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness throughout the residence.
  • Oversee laundry operations, linen management, and inventory control.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure quality and service standards are maintained and ensure high standards of infection control are met.

Support Infection Prevention and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with IPAC, health and safety, and emergency preparedness requirements.
  • Maintain documentation related to fire safety, pest control, and infection control programs.
  • Participate in safety initiatives, inspections, and emergency response activities.

Manage Budgets and Resources

  • Monitor departmental budgets, purchasing, and inventories.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, sustainability and revenue generation
  • Participate in capital project planning, including obtaining quotes, tendering

Ensure Compliance and Quality

  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and residence standards, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System.
  • Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention and Pest Control programs
  • Maintain accurate records and required documentation.
  • Complete mandatory training and perform other duties as assigned

 

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Grade 12 education required.
  • Post-secondary certification or education in Building Maintenance, Trades, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of management experience in facilities management, hospitality, healthcare, retirement living, or a related environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and security systems.
  • Experience managing housekeeping and laundry services within a regulated environment is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) principles and practices.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency with facility management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and resident-centered care.
  • Experience managing budgets, inventories, and capital projects is an asset.
  • Ability to respond to operational needs, including emergencies, outside of regular business hours when required
