ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, the General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational success, financial performance, and resident experience of the residence. This role provides strategic direction to the management team, ensures compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements, drives occupancy and business objectives, and fosters a culture focused on quality, service excellence, and team member engagement.

The General Manager serves as the face of the residence, building strong relationships with residents, families, team members, community partners, and corporate stakeholders while ensuring the residence operates efficiently, responsibly, and in alignment with Verve's values.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead and Inspire Teams

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to the residence management team.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing leaders
  • Foster a culture of respect, collaboration and service excellence.
  • Conduct performance reviews, establish development plans, and support leadership growth.

 

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the residence to ensure high-quality services and resident satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Support education and training initiatives for team members related to operations, resident care, and regulatory compliance.

 

Financial Management & Business Performance

  • Develop, implement, and monitor operational and capital budgets in partnership with regional and corporate teams.
  • Analyze financial performance and prepare variance reporting against budget targets.
  • Monitor departmental expenditures, purchasing activities, inventory management, and capital projects.
  • Approve invoices, payroll, and financial documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, increase revenue, and support long-term business success.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and ensure timely resolution of outstanding balances.

 

Support Occupancy Growth & Community Engagement

  • Partner with Community Relations and Sales teams to support occupancy and revenue goals.
  • Participate in marketing and business development initiatives, including market analysis and strategic planning.
  • Meet with prospective residents and families, supporting tours and the move-in process when required.
  • Promote a positive image of the residence within the community and strengthen community awareness

 

Deliver an Exceptional Resident Experience

  • Ensure residents and families receive outstanding service and support.
  • Address concerns and opportunities collaboratively and professionally.
  • Support an environment where residents feel respected, engaged, and empowered.
  • Champion initiatives that enhance resident satisfaction, quality of life, and overall experience.

 

Strategic Planning & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead the residence's annual planning process and support the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with Regional Directors and Corporate Support teams on residence strategies and initiatives.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive positioning, and opportunities for growth.
  • Make recommendations regarding operational improvements, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate actively in leadership meetings and organizational projects.

  • Minimum x years of progressive leadership experience in retirement living, healthcare, hospitality, or a related service industry
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Hospitality Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Proven success leading teams, managing operations, and achieving business objectives.
  • Strong financial management, budgeting, and business planning experience.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience supporting sales, occupancy, customer service, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as operational needs require.
