ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
Provides leadership and support to the Company’s retirement residences in Ontario promoting the corporate objective of providing quality service and care. The Vice-President of Operations supports, manages, and directs Company initiatives to ensure the delivery of the highest quality of service to residents. This role leads the implementation of operational strategies and objectives across multiple departments and residences, and researches, analyzes, validates, and documents the effectiveness of existing operational business processes while developing strategies to meet the Company’s goals and objectives. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in achieving and exceeding financial and operational goals, reports to the President, and serves as a member of the senior leadership team.
BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS
- The Vice-President of Operations is an experienced senior operations executive who has generated exceptional results through the strategic and tactical direction of operations.
- Significant senior management experience overseeing multiple locations, particularly in the Retirement Home Sector, demonstrated leadership, conceptual, influencing and communicating skills.
- A university degree or equivalent.
- Must have a valid and good standing driver’s license and have a vehicle to travel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees the operation of all Ontario retirement residences and has responsibility for achieving operations and quality goals.
- Introduces and ensures implementation of all Verve Quality Initiatives.
- Ensures effective utilization and control of financial resources by:
- Leading a thorough fiscal planning process to achieve both short- and long-term objectives.
- Reviewing residence financial reports on a regular basis and working closely with the Controllers and General Managers in analyzing variances to budget and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Works closely with the Development team in evaluating opportunities and develop new residences through to stabilized occupancy.
- Ensures occupancy of residence is maximized through review of sales outcomes, processes, market analysis, management, etc.
- Ensures revenue of residence is captured through items such as appropriate service packages for market, ancillary services, etc.
- Provides leadership to General Managers consistent with the company’s vision and values to achieve our objectives in resident satisfaction, employee engagement, financial performance and community engagement.
- Ensures compliance with applicable legislation, regulation, standards including the Fire Code, Public Health, RHRA, privacy legislation, AODA, OH&S, CARF, etc., within and as applicable to each residence.
- Provides guidance to General Managers and Regional Directors collectively and individually in planning, formulating and implementing strategies, policies and objectives that support the provision of quality service.
- Assists General Managers through the goal setting and development review process in the identification of collective and individual goals and developmental needs. Implement programs to meet those needs utilizing corporate and/or external resources as necessary.
- Promotes research, testing and evaluation of new approaches to services, care, and maintains effective ongoing evaluation programs.
- Ensures care standards are in keeping with the appropriate Regulatory standards and supports adaption of best practices.
- Promotes and maintains positive interactive and proactive relationships with the retirement home community, communities within which individual residences exist and with the families and friends of residents, through:
- development and implementation of effective marketing programs;
- assisting staff at all levels to develop or build upon interpersonal and public relations skills to enhance their ability to enunciate and protect corporate value systems;
- maintaining a high personal and company profile through participation in governmental and professional activities and encouraging similar activities at all levels of staff.
- Acts as resource/consultant on matters of regulations and standards, accreditation, health & wellness care, finances, residence start-ups (including furnishings), purchasing, information systems, and continuous quality improvement for the residences.
- Provides guidance and support for the development, implementation and maintenance of proactive, quality systems related to employee relations programs.
- Assists in seeking growth in the Ontario Region through asset management.
- Develops, researches, and keeps current of new and innovative care, service and marketing methods to increase occupancy and ensure innovative provision of services to seniors.
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with all staff and owners to ensure work is effectively completed, a good working atmosphere is provided for fellow employees, and cooperative ventures are effectively developed and implemented.
- Ensures effective utilization and control of financial resources through effective budgeting, ensuring provision and monitoring of appropriate financial information, and reviewing financial reports and corrective action as necessary.
- Ensures complaints are handled effectively and in accordance with the policy, good customer service and organizational reputation.
- Chairs regional committees as necessary.
- Complies with the fire code, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, WSIB, as well as all other applicable legislation.
- Completes all other duties as assigned by the President, which may include involvement in special projects, analysis, etc.
